about

Laxmi is a harmonium player, singer and songwriter who arrived in Halifax Nova Scotia as a refugee in 2011. Along with his wife Raj Adhikari (on the Madal drum) Laxmi plays a style of music known as Evergreen; sentimental songs that speak of love, pride and perseverance in the face of adversity. The six songs featured on "Nepali Songs in Halifax: Memories of My Country" which were recorded in apartments and parks throughout Halifax, Nova Scotia, interweave inspiration from Laxmi's experiences in Canada with the musical traditions of Nepal and Bhutan. The recording serves as a musical a love letter to these two locations, memories and new homes, past and present, collaged together in song.
